Local Student Selected for Telephone Pioneer Scholarship

Hunter HolderJackson, MS. – Hunter Landon Holder, an Honors College Freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi was selected to receive a $1,000 Billy D. Young Memorial Scholarship by the Mid-South Chapter of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association (ITPA). Sponsored by TEC, the given award is based on merit, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors as well as through written essay. He will receive his scholarship during the Mid-South Chapter Summer Convention. The Scholarship is awarded to 25 high school seniors or undergraduate college students who are dependent children or grandchildren of an employee of a Mid-South Chapter Member company. The Chapter awarded a total of $25,000 in 2014.

The Mid-South Chapter of ITPA offers The Billy D. Young Memorial Scholarship Program in an effort to support fellow telecommunications workers in educating their dependent children. The scholarship is made available through the  

Mid-South Chapter and is supported by the individual pioneer clubs in the Chapter.

Holder attends Honors College at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and majors in Computer Science where he is a Dean’s List scholar. He is the son of Larry and Elizabeth “Dodie” Holder of Pearl.
