White Retires From TEC

Ike WhiteJackson, Miss. – Ike White, Bay Springs Central Office Manager, retired from TEC on October 31, 2014, after 43 years of service.

White began his career with Bay Springs Telephone Company in Bay Springs, MS as an installer in January 1971.  Then in October 1971 he moved to Cherokee, Alabama and became Manager of Cherokee Telephone Company.  He served in that capacity until October 1973 when he returned to Bay Springs and continued working for the company.  In August 1974 White was given responsibility of the Bay Springs Central Office Toll Division.  For the next five years, White served in different capacities at other related companies throughout Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi.  In 1979 White was promoted to Central Office Manager and held that position until he retired in October of 2014.

White saw some amazing changes in telecommunications technology during his career with TEC.  He originally worked on Stromberg Carlson electronic step XY equipment and then transitioned to digital switching in 1988 and the EWSD (Electronic Worldwide Switch Digital) in 1999.  In 2007, technology and equipment were updated again to use the Metaswitch soft switch platform.  As all of the TEC Companies made these upgrades, White was the information source and sounding board for others to work through the processes.

White was revered and respected across the Telephone Industry for his knowledge and expertise.  He spent countless hours across the country in classrooms earning a number of certificates for his achievements, and always accelerated to the top of the class.  He was willing to lend a helping hand or opinion when asked.  He was a man of few words, but when he spoke you could be sure it was important.  He had a dry wit and a kind heart and was someone “who always chose to do the right thing”.  He loved his job, and his dedication and contributions to TEC will be greatly missed.

White and his wife Dottie raised three sons, William (Ikie), Mike and Jon.  They have five lovely grandchildren, Andrew, Ashton, Auston, Ava, Andrew and Madison.
