Jackson, MS. – Connor Boyd, a senior at Handley High School was selected to receive a $1,000 Billy D. Young Memorial Scholarship by the Mid-South Chapter of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association (IPTA). Sponsored by TEC, the given award is based on merit, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors as well as through written essay. Boyd, son of William Boyd, TEC Technician, will receive his scholarship during the Mid-South Chapter Summer Convention. The Scholarship is awarded to 25 high school seniors or undergraduate college students who are dependent children or grandchildren of an employee of a Mid-South Chapter Member company. The Chapter awarded a total of $25,000 in 2013.
The Mid-South Chapter of IPTA offers The Billy D. Young Memorial Scholarship Program in an effort to support fellow telecommunications workers in educating their dependent children. The scholarship is made available through the Mid-South Chapter and is supported by the individual pioneer clubs in the Chapter.
“TEC was honored to sponsor Connor Boyd as a candidate for The Billy D. Young Memorial Scholarship,” said Vickie Cummings. “William has worked with TEC for four years and it is a wonderful feeling to know that we have helped him to help Connor continue his education and achieve his dreams.”
