Common Causes of Weak Wi-Fi
  • Distance from the Router: The farther you are, the weaker the signal. A Wi-Fi extender from a local retailer may help.

  • Physical Obstacles: Walls, appliances, and furniture can block Wi-Fi. Place your router in an open, central location.

  • Interference: Microwaves, baby monitors, and other electronics can disrupt signals. Keep your router away from them.

  • Router Placement: Don’t hide your router in cabinets or corners—elevated, central placement gives the best coverage.

  • Outdated Equipment: Older routers or devices may struggle with higher internet speeds. Consider upgrading if issues persist.

Tip: For the best Wi-Fi experience, make sure your router is placed correctly, reduce interference, and use updated equipment.

First Steps in Trouble shooting
Before diving deeper, make sure:
  • All cables are securely attached to your router and computer.

  • Any software installations are complete.

If you’re still having issues:
  1. Disable your firewall or antivirus software (if recently changed or upgraded). If this fixes the issue, contact the software provider.

  2. If you upgraded Windows XP, check that the Windows firewall is disabled.

  3. Restart your devices in this order:

    • Shut down your computer.

    • Turn off your modem and unplug it.

    • Power off your router.

    • Plug the modem back in and wait 2 minutes.

    • Turn the router back on and wait 2 minutes.

    • Restart your computer.

If that doesn’t work, try plugging your computer directly into the modem. If that restores your connection, reconnect your router and test again.
