Can I really get local channels for free without cable?

Yes! With an HD antenna, you can watch major local channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS — all for free after setup.

What do I need to get started?

Just two things:

  • An HD antenna (indoor)

  • A TV with a coax (antenna) input

How do I set it up?

  1. Plug the antenna into your TV

  2. Go to your TV settings

  3. Run a “channel scan”

  4. Start watching your local channels live

Why am I seeing the wrong local channels?

Some streaming TV services determine your local channels based on how they identify your location. In rare cases, this may not immediately match your physical address even though your internet service is working properly.

This is not an internet speed or reliability issue.

Is this something TEC controls?

No. Local channels are determined by your streaming TV provider, not TEC. Each streaming service decides which local stations (TV market) are assigned to an address or ZIP code.

How do I contact my streaming provider for help with local channels?

If your streaming TV service shows the wrong local channels, reaching out directly to the provider’s support team can help you update your home location:

  • Netflix: (800)-585-8131

  • YouTube TV: (877) 763-9810

  • Hulu + Live TV: (877) 824-4858

  • DirecTV Stream: (855) 945-1740

  • Peacock TV: (833) 580-0577

  • Roku: (816) 272-8106

Tip: The streaming provider’s help team may also offer in-app chat or online support options that can help you update your location settings.

Does this affect everyone?

No. When it does happen, it’s most commonly reported on Samsung Smart TVs or on streaming accounts that are used in multiple locations.

What can cause this to happen?

A few common reasons include:

  • The streaming service has your location set incorrectly

  • The ZIP code on the streaming account is tied to a nearby TV market

  • The streaming account is shared with family members at another address

  • Certain smart TVs require a manual location refresh

How do I fix it?

If you notice incorrect local channels, the solution is usually quick:

  1. Contact your streaming TV provider (Netflix, YouTube TV, Hulu Live, DirecTV Stream, etc.)

  1. Ask them to update or reset your home location so it matches your physical address

  1. Confirm the ZIP code and home location on your streaming account

  1. If using a Samsung Smart TV, the provider may walk you through updating the location on the device

Your streaming provider can make this change. TEC is unable to adjust streaming locations on your behalf.

What if I still need help?

If you’re unsure where to start, TEC’s team is always happy to help point you in the right direction. While we can’t change streaming locations directly, we’re here to support you however we can.
